Room 10's Daily Science Experiments

Each day a writing group had a mystery box surprise to do with CHANGES. We melted crayons and used a piece of string that was actually a candle wick, to make a candle. We had to wait for the crayons to set in the tin to create the candle. Our group learned that you can melt a solid with heat and then let it cool enough to set back into a solid again. This investigation showed changes of state from solid - to liquid - back to a solid again. It was cool fun. We learnt about safety around hot elements and working together to take turns. Another day we predicted what would happen if we shook cream in a jar... No one guessed it would make BUTTER! We saw the butter separate from the whey. Another group wrote with lemon juice and made an invisible message! When the paper was heated, it showed up the writing. The fourth group put dots on a piece of filter paper and watched how the water spread the colours up the paper.
