Keeping ourselves safe

Our first lesson was about knowing our address, phone number and a safe place to meet if we got lost. We found out that most people knew the information but that a reminder was a good thing.

We also found out all the things our class mates thought we were good at and we wrote these on a hand outline on coloured paper. It was a fun activity. We did a brain storm of some of the possible good qualities and them went round the room writing them on people's hand shapes that were stuck to their back! Everyone had nice things to say. We learnt these are called compliments when you tell them to someone. It was a lovely feeling to read all the good things people had written.

Literacy in action in Room 5

Yesterday we had a busy day in Literacy. Some people were researching about Pounamu from their journal story by looking at a specific website. others were reading with the teacher on a guided text about a dinosaur, Gigantoraptor. Other groups were reading the blog posts, reading in the library corner and some were playing word games. Some people were reading our speech mark work with pegs showing where to put the punctuation and some were doing grammar work on the ou blend, (like in ground).We also wrote our own narrative stories with a beginning, a middle and an ending. It was a very productive day in Literacy time!

Mothers' Day

For Mothers' Day, Room 5 decided to decorate cupcakes and make special boxes for them to go in. We had to pick a design for the box and glue the paper on to cardboard to make it strong. We cut it out. Some of us found that hard. We folded along all the lines and used cellotape to hold the box together. We used chocolate or white icing to decorate the chocolate cupcakes. There were M and Ms, chocolate hail and hundreds and thousands to decorate the top of the icing. We took them home and gave them to our mums on Mothers' Day. We wrote poems about Mum. These are in our library corner.
