Looks like you had fun

Faraday centre

The Faraday centre was the best experience I have witnessed from the olden days
I liked the old phones, the arcade and the pianola. The pianola was tricky pressing hard out on the
peddles the quiz was hard, but we did get it done at the last minute.
I don't quite get the Morse code yet but I will probably achieve it next time I go.

Mr Bremer, our Principal, around the school. By Brooke and Ellie

Our job was to investigate some of what Mr Bremer does. We saw him welcome our guest speaker, Henare O'Keefe, at Friday 4th May's assembly. Mr O'Keefe talked about how he was the official ambassador of LOVE! He told us to be nice to everyone and to read books. Mr Bremer asked him to help give out Principal's awards. Here they are in action!

The Faraday Center

The Faraday Center, Napier.

Our learning focus: -Everyday Technology from the 1880s - 1920s

We were all split up into 6 groups, then we were all given a worksheet to find all the answers round the building.

These are some of the things that you can find in the Faraday Center:

.Energy: gas lamps, heaters, benzene irons ,weird uses for electricity
.Technology at home: cooking, cleaning, sewing and laundry
.Telecommunications: Morse code, manual telephone exchange, telegrams, early radio
.Transport: bullock teams,  horse buggy, 1907 Rover car, Napier's trams, Napier-Taupo road
.Entertainment: Streoscope, Mutoscope, pianola, harmonium, gramophone

E learning groupings

This term we are in new groups to complete blog entries, google doc writing and maths activities. We have access for a week to the class computers to come up with a new piece of work. We work on our own, in pairs or a small group. Some of us are experts, some are okay and ohters are just learning. We fit in different sections for different things - even Mrs Field!

best camp ever

Camp
Rafting was the best thing about camp. I like bivouacing but Declan kicked me out of the bivouac while we were sleeping!

We liked horse riding on Big Mac. He was the best there. He was really fun to ride. "Come on Big Mac! We need to go! Giddy up!"  It was cool going horse trekking at Mountain Valley Camp.

House Captains and PAL leaders Training Day

16 sports leaders visited Pettigrew Green Arena for a training session to learn some new games. They learnt how to organise and run fun activities for large groups of students. They had to practise speaking confidently in front of an audience. They even tried out some games themselves. Mrs Field was very proud of how they represented HNP! Don't they look smart in the school Representative shirts! They plan to start having lunchtime sport up and running this Thursday.
