Here is one session that did happen at 9:00 a.m. even though it was bitterly cold. But rugby players are tough aren't they?!
Welcome to Room 12's blog for 2016! We have an amazing class of Year 4 students. We are looking forward to a great year of learning with new activities and experiences to motivate us and extend our thinking. Have a look at our work and make a comment. We would love to hear from you!

Rippa rugby sessions
We had a series of lessons planned for the class to learn rugby skills and play Rippa rugby with Hawkes Bay rugby's help. The weather was not on our side most weeks and sometimes Andy couldn't make it.
Making Ginger bread Men
Run, run, as fast as you can to Room 5! Can you smell the yummy gingerbread men?
We made ginger bread men on dress up day! No one knew we were making gingerbread men except Cordayne, so it was a nice surprise to make our own dough, roll it out and use the cookie cutter to make 40 gingerbread men! That was three batches of dough. What a day!
After lunch we decorated them with sprinkles, icing and chocolate hail. We used writing icing pens. There were five different colours. We love Mrs Field's cooking days!
The ginger bread men smelled and tasted delicious! Even Mr Bremer thought they did! Then Mr Kinsey wanted one!
Here is the recipe we used. They were delicious!
Another lesson with Harold in the Life Ed classroom
We had our second session with Harold. We read about the amount of fat, sugar and salt in certain packaged foods we eat. If it is less than 10% per 100 grams, it is not too bad for us. Some foods had 32% sugar - WOW!
We learned about where our food goes in our digestive system. We studied a diagram about how food goes in the mouth and gets chewed. Then it goes down our food pipe called our oesophagus. (We also have a wind pipe for air too). Then the food gets to our stomach and it gets broken down even more. It goes in to our intestines and the little holes let the goodness from our food go into our blood. The parts we don't use are called waste and that goes out - you know how!
We found out Salada crackers were not too bad as a snack. Have a look in your pantry at home and have a look at the back of the packaging. You might get a surprise!
